Ebo Sackey is the ICT Officer of Our Lady of Grace Senior High School in Kumasi - Ghana, a school with the mission of upgrading its ICT and Internet infrastructure for digital learning and 21st Century learning goals.
With game-changing technology moving into the classroom, Ghanaian schools are starting to see a revolution in the way teachers teach and students learn. Schools are leveraging technology to deliver language and science courses that they couldn’t otherwise provide and using tools such as Zoom, Skype and other collaborative tools to bring experts and experiences from around the world into the classroom.
Our Lady of Grace Senior High School has taken the lead as one of the few schools that have implemented a fiber optics network infrastructure campus wide in the country. Experts agree that to enable students to take full advantage of digital learning, schools need about one gigabit (Gbps) by 2022 in Africa. I am happy to say that we have already achieved this as a young and promising senior high school in the country. This achievement has been possible with the help of our international donors.
We have been successful with the implementation of a campus wide fiber network connecting all the administration blocks, computer labs, classrooms, student dormitories, auditoriums, science labs etc. We have further improved campus security with CCTV and telephone network infrastructure in place. Wi-Fi connectivity services and coverage are superb around campus now. Another major milestone for this project has been the design and implementation of a classroom audio visual for effective learning, teaching and collaborations in the all our classrooms. All these insfracture have been coupled with a stateful firewall to protect and secured operations on this network.
We are very happy and appreciative for the continuous efforts by our international donors for supporting these amazing developments in our school. Our dreams are been realized each day. God bless you all.
